This is a song I wrote several years ago and it was in the "cull" pile during pre-production. Everyone who had heard the working demo version strongly encouraged me to record it for this record. For once, I listened! Real glad I did. Hope you enjoy it.

Lyrics

It started in the garden with our hard headed father and mother
They had to do their own thing and it got us in a world of trouble
The dust and the thorns and the sweat and the pain
A slow ride to nowhere with death at the reins
For a little taste of pride they threw away everything

Now none wiser than Solomon ever set on a king's throne
He had riches and power and glory like the world's never known
But he was led astray by too many wives
And a treacherous heart that turned him aside
He forgot about the giver of the gift that gave him the crown

The devil ain't playin' he's got a lot of work to do
No the devil ain't playin' he's got a lot of work to do
No the devil ain't playin' he's fighting mad
Puts on a good show but it always ends bad
The devil ain't playin' he's looking for me and you

Pilate said take him but he don't know what he's guilty of
He told the world about his Father's name and his Father's love
But they hung him on a stake and they watched him die
Three days in hell and he's back alive
Sittin' on the judgment seat waiting to make things right

Now it's a cramped and narrow road you've got to search to find
It's full of the humble and the meek and the weary kind
But don't you turn to the left or turn to the right
Don't turn around or you might lose sight
And get snatched by the jaws of that lion that's roving about

No the devil ain't playin' he's got a lot of work to do
No the devil ain't playin' he's got a lot of work to do
No the devil ain't playin' he's fighting mad
He dresses up nice but he's nothing but bad
That old devil ain't playin' he's looking for me and you
No the devil ain't playin' he's looking for me and you
